Sapphire Valley TV Streaming the 40th Annual Cashiers Christmas Parade

Join us December 13th at Noon for Cashiers 40th annual Christmas Parade, featuring custom built floats and a visit from Santa Claus! This year they will be celebrating not only their 40th Anniversary but the 50th Anniversary of the Sapphire Valley Ski Resort as well.

Built in 1964 by Gene Howerdd Jr., the resort offered skiers an opportunity to snow ski and enjoy the Ski Sapphire Valley Lodge, which was operated in the one of the oldest homes in Sapphire Valley. To honor the resort, the theme for this year’s parade is “A White Christmas.”

But if you can't be here in person, we will be streaming it LIVE from the Crossroads!! Tune into Sapphire Valley TV at noon....Click here for the link!

North Carolina Gold

Did you know North Carolina was the first state in which gold was found? Records indicate just before the gold rush in North Georgia, gold was found near Charlotte and later in Sapphire Valley itself!

Historical records show gold was being mined in Sapphire Valley as early as 1844.  The mine, called Georgetown, was located at the base of Bald Rock Mountain on what today is Camp Merrie Woode.

Gold was mined up until approximately 1900. In 1888, three men discovered about 50 pounds of sapphire gems in the valley...hence the name!!

After this, stories tell that the mine was also used for gem mining and companies like Tiffany’s out of New York set up operations and exported precious stones out of the area.

Groovin' on the Green August 1

This Friday's Groovin on the Green featuring the Matt Joiner Band!! We have "Fall Like" Weather, which is PERFECT for an outdoor concert, in a gorgeous atmosphere....AND IT'S FREE !!!

A little info about the Matt Joiner Band~~ Joiner’s music blends slick licks and gritty narratives, with familiar down-home cues. His influences spread through to the styles of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Joe Bonamassa, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson, and before long he was playing everyday, challenging his ear, writing licks and melodies, all the while repairing broken cars from Japan, and learning the plight of the working artist.

Concert on the Slopes-First of the 2014 Season

Tuesday June 10th Featuring The Buddy-K Big Band

The story of The Buddy-K Band begins in 1983 when Bill Shipp of Hendersonville, NC, realized that there were many talented  musicians in the Hendersonville area that love the big band sound.  Bill organized the Buddy-K Band and under his leadership the band has performed throughout the Southeast.  Some of their appearances include the Hendersonville (NC) Apple Festival, First Night in Charlotte and Asheville, the Big Band Festival in Augusta, GA, the DeerPark in Asheville and the Bele Chere Festival in Asheville.  Bill has recently "retired" from directing the band.  Taking over as leader will be Richard Kitterman who has been playing drums with the band for the last ten years.  The band looks forward to many more years of dance and concert performances.  Keep checking this Website for scheduled activities and plan to come enjoy the music of the Buddy-K Band.

Sapphire Valley's Wishing Well Mystery

It did not take long using the internet to find out what we THINK we have. Exact bowls like this have been carved in several other areas by Indians.

One in Fredericksburg, known as the “Indian Punch Bowl,” was discovered and given this specific name by Major Francis Thornton, who inscribed the stone in 1720. More information on the Sapphire Valley Wishing Well Mystery can be found on HistoryofSapphireValley.org

Sapphire Valley Resort's Duck Pair

Many wondered if they could survive the winter here as Fairfield Lake did freeze over for a day or two.

On a recent hike around the lake, we found the pair doing very well up near Camp Merrie Woode! We assume some of the camp staff looked after them over the winter and they will be back at the boat docks as soon as they open up!
